Pat Willwerth

Patrick Willwerth, M.Ed., LADC-I, is a Clinical Consultant at Castle Hill Counseling & Consulting. For more than 15 years, Pat has worked with adolescents, adults, and families navigating challenges related to substance use, addiction, gambling, mental health, and personal growth. He is passionate about helping individuals better understand the role that self-destructive behaviors play in their lives while supporting them in building healthier, more meaningful paths forward.

Pat believes that recovery is about much more than simply stopping a behavior. It is an opportunity to reconnect with personal values, strengthen relationships, discover purpose, and create a life that feels authentic and fulfilling. Whether someone is questioning their relationship with alcohol, substances, gambling, or other compulsive behaviors, Pat provides a supportive and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore change at their own pace.

In addition to his work in addiction treatment, Pat is a certified Problem Gambling Specialist and a Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Specialist. His experience working with individuals facing both mental health and substance use challenges allows him to support clients from a holistic perspective that recognizes the complexity of recovery and personal growth.

Outside of his clinical work, Pat enjoys continued learning, meaningful conversations, time with family and friends, and exploring ideas related to personal growth, purpose, and well-being.

My Approach

I believe that people are not defined by their struggles. Every behavior serves a purpose, and meaningful change begins with understanding what role that behavior has played in a person's life. My goal is to create a supportive, collaborative environment where clients feel safe exploring difficult experiences without shame or judgment.

My approach integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and harm-reduction principles. Together, we explore personal values, identify patterns that may be pulling clients away from the life they want to live, and develop practical strategies for moving toward greater health, purpose, and fulfillment. Whether someone is pursuing abstinence, moderation, or simply seeking a better understanding of their behaviors, I strive to meet them where they are and support meaningful, sustainable change.

I believe recovery can be a powerful catalyst for transformation. Through greater self-awareness, intentional action, and connection to personal values, individuals can create lives that are richer, more purposeful, and more aligned with who they want to become.
